The Spaulding for Children
Healthy Families Secondary Prevention Program
The Spaulding for Children Healthy Families Secondary Prevention Program receives Secondary Prevention Funds from the State of Michigan with oversight from the Children’s Trust Fund for the Osborn Community Collaborative Prevention Pilot (OCC-PP). Additionally, we receive funding from the Michigan Department of Community Health for the Maternal Infant & Early Childhood Home Visitor Program (MIECHVP). Both programs provide home visitation, family support services, child development screening and referrals, parent education and linkages to community resources for low income families. Services are provided to families that are pregnant and/or have at least one child from birth to age 47 months. The OCC-PP extends the same services to families with children 0-10 yrs who live in the Osborn Community 48205,48224,48208,48211,48212,48213,48214,48215,48225, & 48234 zip codes. The MIECHVP program services young women ages 13-24 yrs who reside in Highland Park, Hamtramck, Redford & Inkster.
The goals of service are to assist parents in acquiring the knowledge, skills and resources to ensure that: they receive appropriate prenatal care; children meet age appropriate developmental milestones; children receive timely immunizations and well child visits; they are effective parents; and they do not abuse or neglect their children.
In addition to home visitation services offered, the Healthy Families Program hosts ongoing trainings in Nurturing Parent and Parenting with Love & Logic curriculums, as well as sponsoring Circle of Friends Parent Support Group, Mother’s on a Mission (MOM) Teen Parent Support Group and the Fatherhood Initiative.
Consortium agencies provide services on a voluntary basis to any family that requires services who meet the eligibility requirements. Our target population includes families with Category III or IV Child Protective Service involvement.
Consortium members include Family Care Network, Northeast Guidance Center and Spaulding for Children.
