“Understanding Social Media Tools and Traps: Empowering Families to Navigate the Virtual World” The program is from 6-8 p.m.
Join us as our facilitated panel discuss the impact of social media from the ethical, mental health and civic engagement perspective. There will be a focus on how parents can enhance their capacity to mitigate the risks and increase responsible use of online platforms. The panel will highlight information that professionals working in the child welfare field as well as parents and youth need to understand the impact of social media on the well-being of families and children. Panelists will provide practical advice and detail strategies to decrease adverse impacts of social media. Using social media platforms is among the most common activity of today’s families. While many parents, youth and children use social media well, some are at some risk as they navigate through the vast online world. Whether families are affected positively or negatively, social media continue to be a significant factor impacting the family’s wellbeing, which may be determined by how they interact with social media platforms. Intended for parents, professionals and youth, the program is free and open to participants who pre-register. This webinar also will create an opportunity for each participant to become aware of their own family’s interaction with social media and to learn effective strategies and helpful tips so they can enjoy a healthy usage of social networking platforms. The webinar is made possible through a partnership between Spaulding for Children, the Detroit PAL (Detroit Police Athletic League) and the LifeChurch of Auburn Hills to more effectively address the effects of social media on the well-being of families and their children. The webinar is supported and sponsored by HAP – the Health Alliance Plan of Michigan, a subsidiary of the Henry Ford Health System.
