Based on the philosophy that with assistance, families can provide for the well-being of their children, the Spaulding for Children Healthy Families Resource Center’s focus is the prevention of abuse and neglect through the provision of home and community based services. The Center has been successful in the prevention of out-of-home placement in 99% of the families served. Funded by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Service, the Maternal Infant & Early Childhood Home Visitor Program (MIECHVP) is located within the Resource Center. This program provides home visitation, family support services, child development screening and referrals, parent education and linkages to community resources for low income families. The MIECHV program services families that reside in Highland Park, Hamtramck, Redford, Inkster, Romulus, Taylor, Westland, Bellville or Van Buren Township and have a pregnant member age 13-24 years.
In addition to the MIECHV program, the Center hosts ongoing trainings and family support groups. Services are designed to assist parents in acquiring the knowledge, skills and resources needed to ensure children remain safely in their homes and those families’ physical, mental, and emotional needs are being addressed.
