Kids of all ages desperately need downtime, family time and time outdoors all the time- but especially in the summer. Use the great weather and time off from school to create memories for years to come. We’ve put together a listing of a few family friendly things to do in Southwest Michigan this summer.

Detroit Summer Fun Centers

Twelve Detroit schools become After School Fun Centers through a partnership with the City and Detroit Public Schools Community District Detroit. Programs run through August 12.

Read Together at Library

Besides a place to grab a book, libraries have lots of summer programs, including story times, educational classes and special events. The Detroit Public Libraries now offer a “Meet Up and Eat Up” lunch program. Check your local library for what’s happening.

Free Cycling Camp

The New Lexus Velodrome is the only Velodrome in US with three different fields of play: the world-class cycling track, a running track, and fitness studio. They host free, four-day camps for kids ages 3-17 until Aug. 30.

Walk on Detroit RiverWalk

Where else than the Motor City can you enjoy a carousel, splash pad, and a view of another country? You can also rent bikes and venture up the Dequindre Cut to Eastern Market.

Hike or Bike in Nature

The 13 beautiful Huron-Clinton Metroparks cover more than 25,000 acres throughout Southeast Michigan. Located in Livingston, Macomb, Oakland, Washtenaw, and Wayne counties, many have boat rentals, fishing, swimming beaches, biking and other activities year-round.

Detroit Lions Football Camps

Train like a pro in a safe and fun environment. There are still a few sessions left

Ford Resource and Engagement Centers

Free activities happen each month at two locations – Southwest Detroit and Eastside locations. Activities include computer coding camps, STEAM education and more big fun, including a special Fiesta on July 28 in Southwest Detroit.
