SFC Team Share Their Insights on Adoption Month
This month Spaulding team members, Sarah Terrien, Michelle Harrison, and Michelle West all finalized adoptions! Each adoption has its own story.
The first report is from Sarah Terrien, IPP Specialist. Below is her summary for the emotional finalization hearing:
“It is my intention for the court’s approval of the adoption of the children by this family. The caregivers are dedicated and have the children involved in therapy, school clubs and sports. The children’s medical, mental, social, and developmental needs are being met. The family is instilling their passion for education in the children. The family loves spending time together and has many shared interests and inside jokes. The children call the parents mom and dad, so today’s finalization is the official process to solidify this bond.
“I have been the worker since 2021 and have witnessed this bond strengthen. The caregivers have kept the children in contact with extended family and siblings placed in other homes. I am confident the children will have bright futures in this loving family.”
Michelle Harrison, IPP Specialist completed her first adoption. Her report:
“This was my first adoption, so the first challenge was learning the entire adoption process. The Adoption Finalization was the greatest highlight because it made it all official. Though the youth had already been placed with the family, the finalized adoption meant that he wasn’t removed from the only person he knew as mommy. That put a smile on my face.
“All in all, it was a great experience for me. I have learned and I am ready for the next adoption.”
Michelle West , IPP Specialist described the process:
“I felt incredibly supported throughout this process. I received assistance with consent, subsidy, and all other aspects of adoption, making everything much smoother and more efficient. One standout aspect was working with an amazing caregiver who was always prompt in providing information and documentation.
“Over the past year, it has been a joy to watch this little angel grow and reach her milestones. It was deeply moving to see the caregiver wholeheartedly embrace her role, showing unwavering commitment to the child’s safety and well-being. This experience culminated in one of the most fulfilling days of my career. All the visits, phone calls, paperwork, and court dates were absolutely worth it to see this child find a forever family.”
