June is National Reunification Month—a time dedicated to recognizing the vital work of reuniting children with their families. At Spaulding for Children, these stories of resilience, love, and renewed hope are at the heart of everything we do. They remind us why our mission matters so deeply.
One story that shines brightly is Brianna Coleman’s. A devoted mother from Detroit, Brianna faced one of the most challenging moments any parent could imagine: two years ago, her children were placed in foster care.
“It’s something no mother wants to go through,” Brianna shared. But through it all, she never lost hope. With the support of Spaulding for Children, she found a partner to walk alongside her on her journey back to her family.
“I worked with Katie, and she always reassured me that I would be OK, my children would be OK, and that the plan was to get us back together,” Brianna said. “She was on call 24/7 if I needed her.”
This kind of unwavering, compassionate support is exactly what Spaulding strives to provide. From counseling and parenting resources to round-the-clock guidance, our team’s mission is to strengthen families, help them heal, and bring them back together whenever safely possible.
Today, Brianna’s family is whole again. Looking back, she has a message for other parents who may find themselves in similar circumstances: “Never give up. Just keep moving forward. Spaulding was beautiful to me. They took care of me and my children and helped me see that the end was coming and it wasn’t impossible.”
As we honor National Reunification Month, we celebrate families like Brianna’s and reaffirm our commitment to standing by parents and children every step of the way. Because every child deserves a loving, safe, and permanent home—and sometimes that means helping a family find its way back to each other.
