This resource is an educational guide developed through the Quality Improvement Center for Adoption and Guardianship Support and Preservation (QIC‑AG) to support families parenting by adoption or guardianship. Originally created by Vermont as part of its universal outreach strategy, the guide highlights common themes and developmental challenges faced by families formed through adoption, guardianship, and kinship care, with a particular focus on the role of trauma across a child’s lifespan. Designed as a practical, family‑friendly reference, the guide helps caregivers anticipate predictable challenges, understand their children’s experiences, and connect with appropriate supports as part of their ongoing post‑permanency journey.
